After going to Wing Night Wednesdays at a local San Francisco restaurant, Paina, I was inspired to make this garlic-cilantro shrimp after eating one too many of their delicious garlic-cilantro wings. The mouthwatering garlic-cilantro sauce was such a great complement to this juicy shrimps. Best of all, this entire meal was less than 200 calories. Who knew such great flavor could come with so little calories?

How I Keep This Recipe Low Calorie

The ingredients used to make this dish were already pretty low in calories, so not much needed to be done here to make cut down on the calories here. As always, it would still be useful to check portion control in mind to make sure the dish fits into your overall calorie budget.

    Tips and Tricks

Dress Up Any Of Your Favorite Proteins With This Sauce

This delicious cilantro garlic sauce can go will with chicken, salmon, or other white fish for a delicious low calorie meal. You can also use this sauce with beef.

Pre-Make the Sauce And Store In the Fridge For the Week

As mentioned above, you can easily top the sauce on a variety of proteins so you can have some variety in your weekly meal prep. This sauce lasts in the fridge for about 3-4 days.

    Ingredients Notes

    Shrimp & Marinade

    • 3oz Shrimp
    • 1 tablespoon Fish sauce
    • 1 teaspoon Salt
    • 1 clove Garlic

    Cilantro Garlic Sauce

    • 1 cup Cilantro
    • 1 Jalapeno (Note: Serrano peppers also work if you want some extra heat)
    • ⅓ Onions
    • ¼ cup Fish sauce
    • 1-2 clove garlic
    • White pepper, salt, black pepper (To taste)
    • Chili flakes (optional)

    Putting It All Together

    1. Gather the shrimp & marinade ingredients. Peel the shrimp if needed and let marinade for 5-15 minutes.
    2. While the shrimp is marinading, start putting together the garlic cilantro sauce. Gather the ingredients for the sauce and blend in a blender until mixed thoroughly. If you don't have a blender, you can also mince and mix the ingredients.
    3. Sauté the shrimps in a skillet for about 1-2 minutes on each side, or until the shrimp begins to curl. Then begin to mix in the garlic cilantro sauce and mix thoroughly.
    4. Remove from heat and serve with side(s) of choice! Personally, I love brussel sprouts, but broccoli, spinach, and/or rice could also be great complements.
